Nintendo is constantly being praised for its marketing of the DS (and Wii) to non-gaming demographics, yet not all of the techniques used by the company are breathtakingly modern or anything. Case in point: these DS-themed parties, which NBC reckons are modeled on Tupperware parties, a decades old concept that first appeared just after the Second World War.

The idea is straightforward enough: gather a selection of "hot, hip alpha females," sling them a free DS (!) and a crate of Lambrini, and let them spend their Friday evening playing Mario Kart DS, Brain Training, and Nintendogs with their tipsy friends. Nintendo hopes that the women involved will go away and chat non-stop to their other alpha friends about the wonders of the DS. It appears to be working, as well. "What's better than hanging out with my girl friends to drink wine and play games?" gushes one participant.

Well, we can't think of anything.

Akin to the traditional Tupperware party, Nintendo invites women to a catered party where they are each given a new DS. An assortment of female-friendly games such as Nintendogs, Brain Age, and Mario Kart are provided. The hope is that these women will then in turn tell their friends, family, and coworkers about the little gadget and generate some feminine buzz.


Can such a farfetched idea work? Sure, why not? Nintendo has already managed to make in-roads into the female and elderly markets in ways that no one expected even three years ago. Who would have thought retirement homes would be sporting Wiis as a feature? And if it does work, how long before Sony has their own PSP parties?

Hahaha, a Nintendo faz de tudo para agradar às massas!

Para além dessa estratégia, existem jogos que são quase 100% dirigidos ao público feminino, como o Wii Fit, por exemplo.
A verdade é que cada vez mais mulheres jogam, e acredito que esse facto se deve ao sucesso da chamada "touch generation".

'' Wii fit não é 100% dirigido às mulheres, conheço várias pessoas (masculinas e femininas) com esse jogo e gostam.
Eu próprio já pensei em comprar, mas 95€ é muito guito.

Está bem visto pela nintendo. Alias não entendo porque é que as outras consolas não fazem o mesmo.
Existem mais mulheres no mundo que homens.
Assim alem de dominas sobre os homens podem vender mais uns milhões com as mulheres.

Eu já compro há 9... Eu é que já ando a merecer uma ds... Mas é por estas e po routras, que a nintendo é nº1
